Programs

Youth/Children We Serve: We serve children and youth currently in foster care who are from CPS region 3. This includes youth who are placed in a licensed foster home and are still considered a foster placement.  If a child remains in extended care while working or going to school they still qualify for our services.  Once a child ages out, returns to their home, is adopted or goes to a kinship placement they no longer qualify for our services.

Success in School (SIS)

In 2014, Friends of Wednesday’s Child launched the simple but critically needed program “Success In Schools.”  Recognizing that no organization or agency was advocating for or helping children in foster care navigate their educational path, Friends developed a program where qualified Education Specialist are assigned to youth and follow them through their entire school process regardless of where they are relocated within the north Texas service area. Our Specialists provide academic assessment, develop education plans and advocate in the system to assure our children in foster care receive the best services available. For more information about our Success in School program, click here.

Beyond the Classroom

Beyond the Classroom

Research and statistics show that positive experiences in a foster child’s life along with the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities with their peers strengthen emotional, social, and educational development. Beyond the Classroom supports foster youth’s participation in camps, extracurricular, and enrichment activities as well as recognizes special days in their life.  To learn more about Beyond the Classroom click here.

Academic Supports

Academic Support

Academic support provides resources and fulfills unmet educational needs. This program provides opportunities including tutoring, GED preparation and testing, college campus visits, summer school, and assistance with graduation packages including senior rings and senior trips. In addition to these supports, every July we hold a Back to Class Readiness Event that supplies youth with backpacks and school supplies. FWC also awards university scholarships every summer for the new fall semester.  To learn more about our Academic Supports click here.
